On what principle does the DEFSTUT work?

The way the device works relies completely on the tried and tested D.A.F. principle. DEFSTUT® also features M.A.F.

What is D.A.F. en what is M.A.F.?

D.A.F. stands for "Delayed audio feedback". The voice is played back in the ear after a delay of a few milliseconds. Hundreds of experiments with stutterers have proven the positive effect of D.A.F. on stammering.

M.A.F. stands for "Masked audio feedback". M.A.F. enables a tone to be generated so that the stammerer can start speaking without too many problems. This function is mainly used in the event of severe blockages.

Where can I buy the DEFSTUT® ?

For the time being, only via our website. It is doubtful whether DEFSTUT® will end up in shops in the short term. Experience suggests that people prefer to order the device discreetly.

Does the DEFSTUT® work for all stutterers ?

There is no conclusive explanation for this. In a number of large-scale surveys (with large devices which use the D.A.F. function) involving hundreds of stammerers, it has turned out that approximately 10of the subjects experienced little or no benefit. As it happens, the designer of the device - himself a stammerer - is unfortunately among those 10%

How discreet is the DEFSUT?

The device is smaller than a regular mobile phone. You simply click it onto your belt or put it in your inner or outer pocket. Laytec is currently also working on discreet earpieces and microphones (this is our top priority at the moment). From the many reactions we have had, we have gathered that most stammerers want to be able to use the device as discreetly as possible.

Does the effect of the DEFSTUT® diminish over time?

Experiments have proven that the difference between speaking with and without DEFSTUT® does diminish over time - not because the effect of DEFSTUT® decreases, but because the stammerer also starts speaking much better without the device!

Will the DEFSTUT® be made even smaller?

These new developments are underway:

• bluetooth (wireless microphone and earplug)
• MP3 player so that in "non-speaking" situations your favurite music can be played.
• F.A.F. (frequency altered feedback) to be added.
• Even smaller device
  
  Suggestions are welcome. The DEFSTUT®2 may be produced after a few years.

Is therapy still neccesary?

We definitely recommend therapy. DEFSTUT® is no more than a technical aid for easier, more fluent speaking. The most permanent results are achieved by using DEFSTUT® in combination with stammering therapy!

What if the DEFSTUT® does not work with me?

If you are among the 10% of stammerers, you can return DEFSTUT® to us within two weeks, and we will refund 95% of the price.


Does the DEFSTUT® also work for children ?

DEFSTUT® also helps children speak more easily and better, but use in combination with stammering therapy is definitely recommended!!! The importance of psychological support for stammerers - especially children - cannot be emphasised enough!!!

My therapist does not approve of DEFSTUT®?

Many speech therapists react quite sceptically to DEFSTUT®, and this is perfectly natural. They have been involved in years of research aimed at understanding the complex issue of stammering and hence helping stammerers.

The fact that the problem is largely resolved by a simple device understandably causes eyebrows to be raised. Unfortunately, the speech therapists who claim that DEFSTUT® doesn’t work have rarely or never tried out the device.

We do wish to stress that DEFSTUT® should preferably be used in combination with speech therapy for the most permanent results!!!

What if the device is broken?

The user should preferably contact us via e-mail on the address support@DEFSTUT®.com. Someone will respond to his or her question within the working day.

Those without access to internet and e-mail should contact their distributor. The distributor’s details are shown on the invoice.

Can I use the DEFSTUT® in the rain?

DEFSTUT® is splashproof, meaning that the device can be used in light rain without any problem.

Under no circumstances should DEFSTUT® be used underwater or in heavy rain without any protection! However, the headset and microphone may be used in heavy rain.

What about the guarantee?

DEFSTUT® comes with a one-year guarantee.

What about renting or leasing?
